VisionGift is a non-profit organization founded in 1975 by Lions Clubs of Oregon, which recognized the need for an eye bank to provide ocular tissue for transplants, research and medical education.
Since its inception, over 65,000 people have received the gift of sight from tissue procured and screened by VisionGift, which works closely with transplant surgeons.

SUMMARY STATEMENT : The Eligibility Specialist (ES) is a Medical Director Designee and, as such, is responsible for ensuring eye tissue meets or exceeds all VisionGift, State, industry, Federal, and other applicable guidelines.
They are responsible for making final donor eligibility determination, as well as tissue suitability determination based on the 20 eligibility core indicators defined in VG SOPs.
The ES works closely with the VP of Donor Services to complete projects and other assigned duties as needed. After the initial training period, the position has flexibility for a hybrid work from home and on site schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Compile and review elements of the donor record including, but not limited to, the final medical record. This includes confirming the paperwork for accuracy, resolving eligibility-related discrepancies, and coordinating needed corrections
Consult with the Medical Director, infectious disease experts, and other key parties as needed to resolve concerns in the donor medical, social, and travel history.
Take periodic on-call shifts depending on schedule and needs of the organization.
Consult with other departments to make preliminary eligibility determination when there are questions outside the knowledge of the other department.
Resolve departure from procedure findings in coordination with other departments.
Assist Quality Department with various projects, such as records management, tissue audits, and others as needed.
Participate in corrective and preventive action plans as appropriate.
Complete corrections for audit findings within specified timeframes.
This position may be required to work a share of holidays.
Maintain a professional demeanor and interact well with others.
Other duties and projects as needed and determined by Supervisor.

EDUCATION :
Bachelor's degree in science is recommended. Commensurate experience in a related field may substitute for a degree.
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum one year of experience eye banking, preferably performing donor screening and interpreting donor screening and testing results
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills
Reliable and timely decision maker
Positive attitude and willingness to work pro-actively and with a team and cross-departmentally
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
